Database modernization: transition to InnoDB completed

Nuagerie has completed the conversion of existing MyISAM tables to InnoDB on its managed hosting platform. The work focused on compatibility and the preservation of data and database structures. At completion, no MyISAM tables remained in the platform’s live database inventory.

A modern storage engine for existing applications

The storage engine determines how a database manages its tables. InnoDB is the default engine in MariaDB and supports transactions, row-level locking and crash recovery, as described in the official MariaDB documentation. Moving legacy tables to this engine establishes a more consistent foundation for ongoing database maintenance.

The practical objective was to modernize this part of the hosting environment while respecting the applications and data already in use. A change of storage engine must account for table definitions, indexes and compatibility requirements, particularly where older applications rely on historical database behaviour.

Rehearsed before application, checked after conversion

Before the final batch, the affected tables were copied into an isolated working environment. Their conversion was rehearsed and native table checks were performed there. This preparation allowed the team to examine the conversion against the actual structures and data involved before applying it to the live tables.

The final conversion then followed a controlled sequence. Before-and-after comparisons covered logical data fingerprints and row counts, together with the structural elements that needed to remain unchanged.

  • Columns, indexes and collations were checked for preservation.
  • Compared data and row counts matched across the final batch.
  • Native table checks completed without failures.
  • Database permissions, account mappings and unrelated settings were preserved.
  • Core service state and selected website responses were compared with the existing baseline.

What this changes for your hosting

The result is a completed transition of the existing tables, supported by recorded preservation checks. It simplifies the storage-engine baseline our team maintains and provides the capabilities of InnoDB to applications that use them.

Application performance still depends on queries, indexes, workload and configuration. Those factors can be examined separately when a website needs further optimization. Likewise, a future import or application installation can introduce new tables, so the completed inventory describes the state verified at the end of this intervention.

Nuagerie approaches database maintenance with careful preparation and attention to application compatibility. Customers with questions about an older application or a database requirement can contact our team for guidance specific to their environment.

Connect database questions to application needs

For a store or business application, the important question is how the database supports the work being done: creating an order, searching a catalogue or preparing a report. When one of those operations becomes slow or fails, Nuagerie can help review the hosting context and discuss whether the next investigation concerns capacity, database structure or application code.

Send the affected operation, its approximate time and any error message through the client area. For a planned import or application upgrade, mention its expected size and timing instead. This gives our team a focused starting point without requiring you to send a database export or customer records in the initial request.
