In July 2018, Nuagerie upgraded its cPanel and WHM environment to version 72. This brought useful tools for website development and administration, including Git repository management, a browser terminal and directory restoration capabilities.
Organizing website changes
Git records a project’s file history and helps developers follow changes. Its integration with cPanel brought repository management closer to the hosting environment. A code repository is not a complete website backup, however: the database, uploaded files and settings also need to be considered.
The browser terminal provided another way to use the command line for accounts with the necessary permissions. It requires an understanding of what commands do, particularly when they modify or remove files.
Recovering the right content
The restoration interface expanded the ability to work with files and directories. Access to this feature depends on the service’s backup configuration and settings. Before restoring anything, identify the content to recover and the recent changes that might be overwritten.
These capabilities remain dependent on account configuration. When preparing a project, check which features your hosting service provides and consult cPanel’s current guides to Git, the terminal and file and directory restoration.
Connect the tools to your development workflow
These tools become more useful when the developer and the person managing the website agree on how a change reaches production. Identify the repository, the branch to publish, the files generated during a build and any database changes that need a separate step. Nuagerie can help review the hosting requirements and available access before that workflow is put in place.
If your team is planning a new site or application, bring a short description of who maintains it and how often it changes to our development team. For an existing hosting account, use the client area to identify the account and the specific tool you want to use. That makes the discussion about a practical publishing process for your project.
