The WordPress team have officially announced the release of version 5.1.1. This security update introduces 10 bug fixes and enhancements, including changes created to assist hosts to prepare users for the minimum PHP version bump that will come in WordPress 5.2.
This release also comes with security fixes that manage how comments are filtered and then saved in the database. (Before, a WordPress post was susceptible to cross-site scripting with a maliciously crafted comment.)
WordPress versions 5.1 and earlier are affected by the bugs fixed in version 5.1.1. For those that still have not upgraded their versions of WordPress, several upgraded versions are also available for WordPress 5.0 and earlier. You can download WordPress 5.1.1 or go to Dashboard > Updates and click Update Now. Websites that support automated background updates should have already started to update automatically.
