Access to a mailbox, a hosting task and service administration require different permissions. Choose individual access suited to the work rather than sharing the main account password. Available features depend on the service and enabled options.
Choose the right tool
- User Manager: creates and manages subaccounts for available email, FTP and Web Disk services. A subaccount created here cannot sign in to cPanel and does not provide SFTP access.
- Manage Team: when offered, creates users who can sign in to cPanel with assigned roles and services. It is a separate tool from the subaccount manager.
- Client Area users: their permissions concern functions of the Nuagerie client account. The account owner can manage access when this option is available. A Client Area invitation does not create a WordPress user or a User Manager subaccount.
For work limited to WordPress content, start by reviewing the roles available in WordPress. For a mailbox alone, our email account guide will usually help identify the relevant controls.
Prepare a service subaccount
- Open the correct hosting account using our cPanel sign-in guide, then open User Manager if available.
- Before selecting Add User, check whether an account already exists for that person. Enter their name, username, domain and a contact email address they control.
- Choose an available password-setting method. Invitations depend on enabled options. Do not reuse the main cPanel password.
- Enable only the required services. Check the accessible file directory, permissions and displayed storage limits, then review the details before creating the subaccount.
Then test access to the intended service through an appropriate encrypted connection. Check that it reaches the expected resources. FTP access is different from SFTP; if you need SFTP, have a suitable option confirmed for your service.
Change or remove access carefully
If cPanel offers to link existing accounts, first confirm that they belong to the same person and that grouping them is intended. Before changing a password, check which services are linked to the subaccount and update the affected devices.
Deleting a subaccount removes its associated services. Before any deletion, identify data that must be kept and tasks that depend on that access. Deletion is not a way to repair a sign-in problem.
When a colleague leaves or an outside contractor needs access, ask the responsible person to review Client Area, cPanel, mailbox and application access separately. Our team can help you choose suitable permissions: describe the task and its duration in your Client Area, without sending a password.
