Installing a control panel and converting an operating system are server-administration operations. They are not performed from a hosting account and must be planned for the versions actually in use.
Distinguish installation from conversion
A new DirectAdmin installation requires a clean, compatible system. Do not run its installer on an existing production server assuming it will migrate data or replace another panel automatically.
For CloudLinux conversion, check the compatibility matrix, source operating system, panel, license and platform-specific conditions. Procedures are not interchangeable across all distributions.
Prepare the work
- Identify affected websites, databases, email and dependencies.
- Prepare recoverable backups, console access and a rollback plan.
- Check the PHP and database versions required by applications.
- Plan necessary interruptions or restarts within the agreed maintenance window.
Validate the components
Use current official procedures for the selected system. CageFS, LVE limits, PHP Selector and MySQL Governor each have requirements. Do not install an old MariaDB version or package group simply because it appeared in an example.
Afterwards, check access, applications, email, backups and intended resource limits. Isolation and resource controls contribute to hosting configuration; they are not a security or availability guarantee.
