How to Determine your Server's IP Address

Several IP addresses can be associated with a server or website. To identify the public address assigned to your cPanel hosting account, start with the information in your control panel. An address used for a website, an outbound connection or a software license should not be treated as interchangeable without checking its purpose.

Check your cPanel account information

  1. Sign in through your usual secure cPanel access and confirm that you are viewing the correct hosting account.
  2. If the General Information section is available, look for Shared IP Address or Dedicated IP Address.
  3. You can also search for Server Information in the panel. Read the shared or dedicated address field, rather than Local IP Address.
  4. Record the address and the label beside it. If the information is unavailable or unclear, ask support to confirm the address before using it.

The official cPanel documentation distinguishes public-facing shared or dedicated addresses from the server’s internal local address. The location of these details and the available features depend on your interface and account configuration.

Understand why other results may differ

  • An address returned by a DNS lookup: this shows the published destination for the requested name. With a proxy or content delivery network, it may identify that service rather than the origin server. Cloudflare’s proxy-status documentation explains this distinction.
  • An address shown by a “my IP” website: when opened in your browser, this reflects the connection your device uses, such as your home, office or VPN connection.
  • A local address: an internal server address is not necessarily reachable from the public Internet.

For a DNS change or migration, confirm the intended service and its current details. An old hosting confirmation may be outdated after a move. Do not replace email settings, nameservers or proxy rules simply because you see a different address.

Contact Nuagerie support with the domain, the intended use of the address and the label of the field you checked. We can help identify the information appropriate to your service. Do not send passwords or access tokens; keep any screenshot limited to the necessary details.
