Check and restart LiteSpeed on an administered server

These operations are for an authorized server administrator. Shared-hosting users should request support assistance. Restarting the web server can affect several sites; first establish the cause and scope of the problem.

On an installation using systemd

When the LiteSpeed service is named lsws, check it with sudo systemctl status lsws. This displays its status; it does not restart the service.

After checking configuration, the maintenance window and recovery access, restart it with sudo systemctl restart lsws. Then check sudo systemctl status lsws again.

The service name and control method can vary with installation and panel integration. Do not apply these commands to another service without checking its configuration. Use the panel’s control when that is the intended method for your environment.

Verify the result

  • Test affected websites over HTTPS and check their important functions.
  • Review relevant logs and availability checks.
  • If the restart fails, retain the error and diagnose it before repeating the action.

An active service does not prove that every application works. Keep useful evidence in the private support case and remove secrets before sharing it.
