Installing a backup server is an infrastructure-administration task. Planning must account for the supported operating system, software version, agents, storage and recovery method.
Validate the project
- Confirm compatibility and support conditions for the proposed version with the vendor.
- Define the data to protect, its volume and required retention.
- Check connectivity between manager and agents, with network rules limited to the service’s needs.
- Prepare recovery access and an independent copy of the existing configuration.
Use the appropriate installation procedure
Follow official documentation for the exact version selected and verified download sources. Do not reuse an HTTP repository or commands intended for an old distribution. Do not disable package-signature verification to work around a repository problem.
Create unique administrator credentials and retain them in a password manager. A published example password must never become a real credential. Protect console access with HTTPS, a valid certificate and appropriate access restrictions.
Demonstrate recovery
Before relying on the solution operationally, perform a test backup and restore to a separate destination. Verify the files and application consistency. A completed job alone does not establish that recovery meets your needs.
