Understand CloudLinux and your shared hosting

CloudLinux provides tools for managing resource use on a shared hosting server. For your website, identifiable measurements and limits help make heavy workloads easier to understand and guide the next decision. This article explains the technology’s role and what to check before changing your application or hosting plan.

A framework for sharing resources

A shared server runs applications belonging to several accounts. CloudLinux uses LVE environments to apply resource limits to the processes assigned to them. The purpose is to control each account’s consumption. The official CloudLinux documentation explains how this works.

These controls do not turn shared hosting into a dedicated server or promise constant speed and uninterrupted service. A page also depends on its code, queries, external services and visitor journey. Investigate the actual symptom before deciding that your hosting plan is insufficient.

What the limits help you understand

Indicators cover different resources: processing, memory, disk access and processes. An account can reach one limit while capacity remains available in other areas. Our guide to reading resource limits explains the abbreviations and units.

The measurement scope matters as much as the number. When several websites or jobs fall under the same account and its limits, their activity can add up. An import, an application backup and visitor requests might overlap. Confirm the scope that applies to your service before attributing an increase to a particular domain.

Find information for your account

On compatible services, cPanel can provide the CloudLinux resource usage tool. Availability depends on configuration and enabled features, as the cPanel documentation explains. Our guide to viewing resource measurements helps you collect useful information.

A software vendor’s example values do not describe your Nuagerie plan. Check the limits shown for your service and our guide to plan specifications. If an indicator or tool is missing, support can help establish which information is available for your account and how to interpret it.

Keep your application in good condition

Resource management complements work on the website. It does not replace updates, verified backups or investigation of a faulty plugin. CloudLinux also includes different components; the presence of one does not establish that every vendor feature is included or enabled on your service.

For a specific problem, continue with our guide to investigating high resource use. To improve the workload over time, consult our hosting optimization guidance. Together, these steps help distinguish a temporary incident, an application correction and a recurring need for more capacity.

Plan the next stage with Nuagerie

As your requirements develop, we can review the available measurements, important website functions and upcoming projects with you. A store, a campaign or a new integration deserves preparation based on how it actually works. Our guide to evaluating a hosting upgrade helps structure that discussion.

Open a request in your client area with the relevant service and your objective. We can clarify the checks, technical options and scope before agreeing on a change.
