A properly configured business mailbox lets you access messages on your computer and phone and reply from the right address. This guide applies to mailboxes whose email is hosted in your Nuagerie cPanel account. If your domain uses Microsoft 365, Google Workspace or another service, obtain that service’s settings before continuing.
Before you start
The mailbox must already exist. If needed, follow our guide to creating and managing email accounts. First confirm that you can open its webmail and send a test message there. Your website and email may be hosted by different providers.
Use an up-to-date application. When replacing an older configuration, keep it and back up any messages stored only on that device before removing an account. Adding an IMAP connection does not automatically transfer local archives or another provider’s message history.
Find your mailbox settings
Use your usual cPanel access, open Email Accounts, then select Connect Devices beside the correct address. Find the secure SSL/TLS settings. Labels and available options can vary with your interface.
- Username: your full email address.
- Password: this mailbox’s password, separate from your Client Area or cPanel login.
- Incoming and outgoing servers: copy the exact names displayed for your mailbox. Do not derive them from your website address.
- Incoming mail: IMAP with SSL/TLS, normally on port 993.
- Outgoing mail: SMTP with SSL/TLS, normally on port 465, with authentication for the relevant mailbox.
Follow the secure values in your panel or the instructions provided by support. If support specifies port 587, use STARTTLS as instructed. Do not switch to an unencrypted connection to bypass an error.
Add the account to your application
- Add a mail account from the application’s settings. For a cPanel mailbox, select manual IMAP setup if automatic detection fails or suggests a different type of service.
- Enter the incoming settings, then the outgoing settings. Check the SMTP username and authentication as well: being able to receive messages does not establish that sending is configured.
- Check the display name and sending address before saving. Menus differ across versions of Outlook, Mail, Gmail mobile and other applications.
IMAP synchronizes messages and folders with the server. Deleting a message can therefore affect your other devices. Synchronization makes everyday access easier, but does not replace an independent backup.
Check the result
Send a message without sensitive content to an external address you control, then reply from that address. Check delivery in both the application and webmail, the spam folders and the address used for your reply. Then check folders and synchronization settings on your second device, if applicable.
If a certificate error appears, stop and have the server name and exact error checked. Do not accept an untrusted certificate. If Outlook offers Secure Password Authentication (SPA), leave it off for this cPanel connection: it is separate from SSL/TLS encryption and is not compatible with this service.
Get help for your situation
If the test fails, use our sending and receiving troubleshooting guide. In your Nuagerie support request, include the application and version, device, exact error and the result of the webmail test. Never send your password.
