Removing KernelCare changes how the server receives kernel live patches. Reserve this operation for an authorized administrator with an agreed replacement maintenance plan. It is not a troubleshooting step for an unrelated website or email problem.
Prepare the change
Record the distribution, running kernel, KernelCare version and applied patches. Save any customized agent configuration and arrange administrative recovery access. Identify who will maintain the kernel afterward, which updates are required and whether a separately planned reboot will be necessary.
For a managed server, confirm the change with the team responsible for its patching. A hosting account does not provide authority to remove software from the shared server.
Remove the package appropriate to the system
TuxCare documents different package managers in its uninstallation reference. In an authorized root shell, choose the command for your distribution; do not run all alternatives.
For a distribution using DNF:
dnf remove kernelcareFor an older RPM environment using YUM:
yum remove kernelcareFor Debian or Ubuntu using APT:
apt-get remove kernelcareReview the proposed transaction before confirming it. Stop if it removes unexpected software. These examples deliberately leave the package manager’s confirmation enabled.
Verify and retain a recovery path
Check the transaction result and package inventory using the same package manager. Confirm application health, monitoring and the replacement patching arrangement. Keep the change record and saved configuration until the maintenance outcome is accepted.
If removal fails or services behave unexpectedly, retain the error and consult the responsible administrator. Reinstallation may require the appropriate repository, configuration and licence activation; prepare those details before removal instead of assuming a universal undo command.
Removing software does not by itself confirm cancellation of a subscription. TuxCare distinguishes unlinking an activation key from managing the licence in its portal. Resolve any subscription change with the party that supplies the licence.
